Six Nonprofit Organizations Selected for Capacity-Building
Program
ARLINGTON, VA – The selection of six Arlington nonprofit
organizations was announced today as part of Arlington’s Nonprofit
Organization Capacity Building Program. The program offers a unique opportunity
for Executive Directors and Board Members of local nonprofits to engage
in a professionally tailored program designed to develop their capacity
during tough economic times. Arlington County, in partnership with Richard
P. Brewster of Nonprofit Leadership, will work with each selected nonprofit
to identify the main areas of its capacity in which it could best use
assistance.
The six Arlington non profits selected are:
• Clarendon Alliance
• Borromeo Housing, Inc.
• Educational Theatre Company
• RPJ Housing
• Washington Area Community Investment Fund (WACIF)
• Bonder and Amanda Johnson Community Development Corporation
County Board Member Walter Tejada has been a long-time supporter of the
program, recognizing the special needs of nonprofits and their importance
to the community via social services, business assistance and cultural
enrichment to local residents and businesses. “On behalf of Arlington
County, I’m very pleased that these six nonprofits have been selected
to participate in Arlington’s Nonprofit Organization Capacity Building
Program,” stated Tejada. “This program offers a unique opportunity
for nonprofits to develop capacity during these tough economic times.
Nonprofits are an essential part of the social, economic and cultural
fabric of the Arlington community.”
Once its critical capacity needs have been identified, the organizations
will work with Arlington over the next 12 months to address capacity issues,
enhance sustainability and increase impact. Seven phases of the program
include assessment, monitoring, training, coaching, measurement of recommendations
and final reporting.
The Nonprofit Capacity Building Program is part of Arlington’s Nonprofit
Assistance Network, which seeks to maintain and build upon the foundation
of existing nonprofits and to assist new nonprofits as they form. Arlington
County devised the Nonprofit Assistance Network to address both the governance
and the management of community-based nonprofits. Through a number of
strategic partnerships, Arlington’s Nonprofit Assistance Network
has built a comprehensive program: organizational assessments, training,
direct technical assistance, increased capacity and sustainability programs.
